The «burchiello» (skiff) is the characteristic boat on the Tanaro River. It can be between 6 and 12 m, depending on the needs (could be used as a ferry, for the transport of materials and fishing) and the type of bottom on which it operates.

The ancient «burchiello» is made of acacia wood, a material that is resistant for long stays in the water. The boat is made with a flat bottom, terminating at the bow with a vertical rostrum reinforced to give higher resistance to the boat. The oar is made in one piece, always in acacia, from 3 to 3,5 m

in lenght. The fork, where the oar rests, is made of mulberry root, wood best suited to absorb efforts and more resistant to cracking.

The movement to the boat is given by both using the oar as a strut in shallow water, and using it like in the Venetian rowing.
