The representation, a work of Gioannino de’ Grassi and co-workers dating back to the years 1380-1385, returns graphically the land use outlined in the rich collection of documents that constitute the core of the Codex Astensis. It shows, although after a century, the maximum extension reached by the communal district. We easily recognize the main hydrographic characteristics of the area (on the right the Belbo Creek, in the center the Tanaro River and its tributaries), the largest settlement (the city of Alba, in the upper left, and Asti) and castles controlled by the city authorities. Masio is distinguished at the bottom of the sheet, virtually at the center of the representation and next to the fortifications of Rocca (d’Arazzo), Rocchetta (Tanaro) and Malamorte (today Belveglio).
